The “Examples of Power Imbalances in Dialogue” tool is a 60-minute interactive session for up to 20 participants that combines short video case studies (e.g., mansplaining, white fragility, tokenism), anonymous polling, and a three-layer intersectional mapping diagram (personal characteristics, systems of oppression, structures/institutions). Through guided reflection and small-group work, learners surface and name repressive communication dynamics, map underlying power relationships, and co-create concrete commitments to more inclusive, empathetic, and accountable dialogue practices. This process deepens critical thinking, intercultural competence, and digital citizenship skills.
This exercise was designed by Povod’s team of intercultural trainers led by Samar Zughool.
