Highlights from our "Tales, Dolls & Tours" exhibition in Ptuj

Nataliya Akulova took us to on a fascinating journey to uncover the magic of the sacred Ukrainian talisman - Motanka doll. Handcrafted for over a thousand years, these charming faceless dolls were once thought to bring protection and resilience. What started as simple little charms have now evolved into vibrant expressions of cultural identity.

For many Ukrainian women, crafting these dolls and embroidering traditional patterns provides strength, comfort, and a way to preserve their heritage.

Born in Ukraine, Nataliya began her journey as a teacher and now channels her passion for traditions, cultures, and handicrafts like knitting, sewing, and crochet. She is currently bringing her creativity to Zavod Bob's "Theatre of the Oppressed" project.

This event is a part of Inclusion in Actions program, which is a part of THE:PLACE programme. It is jointly managed by ALDA - European Association for Local Democracy and Mekanda Adalet Derneği.
